Welcome
Edwin S. Menor, MD

Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce the arrival of Edwin Menor, MD, general surgeon.
Dr. Menor, originally from South America, is bilingual in Spanish and English. He was medically and surgically trained in the United States.
Dr. Menor performs all general surgery procedures, and has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures. Minimally invasive procedures are done with smaller incisions, which generally means less pain and faster recovery times for patients.
"Dr. Edwin S. Menor will be a welcome addition to our medical staff, and he will be located in the medical office building on the hospital campus," said Merrimack Valley Hospital CEO Michael Collins.
Dr. Menor’s focus is on patient education. He spends time informing patients about their conditions, explains surgical choices, and enlists their participation in pre- and post-surgical options for rapid recovery.
"I love my patients and treat them with respect and dignity. As a surgeon, my job is to prolong and improve their quality of life. Surgical care should be available worldwide to everyone in need,” said Dr. Menor.
A compassionate surgeon, Dr. Menor goes on mission trips to do pro bono surgeries for indigent patients both in the United States and third-world countries. His most recent surgical mission trip was to his home country of Peru.
Dr. Menor earned his medical degree from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his internship and surgical residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York in 2003, and then trained with one of the pioneers of advanced laparoscopic surgery, James “Butch” Rosser, Jr., M.D. from Yale University, at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Menor is a member of the Society of American Endoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgeons, the National Hispanic Mentor Recruitment Network, and the Peruvian-American Medical Society.
Dr. Menor began his practice at Merrimack Valley Surgical Specialties on Aug. 1, 2010. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call (978) 912-7450.

Merrimack Valley Hospital Announces New Wound Care Center Clinical Coordinator

Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce Audrey McGlew, RN as the new Clinical Coordinator in the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center.
Audrey was born in Haverhill and lived in the city for 20 years. Shortly after her marriage she and her husband built a home in Groveland where they have lived ever since. She and her husband have two daughters ages 17 and 19. She was active in Girl Scouts and taught CCD at St. Patrick’s Church for eight years.
Audrey had worked in the high tech industry then operated a videography business with her husband while she stayed at home with their children. When she became a mother she realized she wanted to be a nurse. So in the year 2000 when she thought her family was ready, she attended Northern Essex Community College and graduated second in her class in the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Program.
Following graduation Audrey worked per diem at Merrimack Valley Hospital and a physician’s office. She also has over four years of nursing experience in an area wound care center.
When she heard Merrimack Valley Hospital was opening a Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center she applied and soon became the full-time clinical coordinator.
Audrey likes that in wound care she sees the same patients for an extended period of time and she finds her work rewarding.
“Our patients have had life-changing experiences. Some can’t walk or be mobile. The best part is seeing them make progress and get back to their standard of life. The bitter-sweet irony is that after they have healed we don’t see them as much anymore.”

Merrimack Valley Hospital Announces
Palliative Care Service
Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce its new Palliative Care Service for patients with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses.
The Palliative Care Team of physicians, nurses, case managers and social workers helps patients understand the nature of their advanced illness, create a treatment plan that will improve their quality of life, and help them realize their end-of-life wishes.
Palliative Care is aimed at control for pain, fatigue and nausea; emotional and spiritual support; food and nutrition; quality of life and dignity; health care goal setting; advanced planning; and wishes for end-of-life care.
“The hospital is proud and supportive of the fine work of this dedicated team in formulating a comprehensive and supportive approach for patients and families addressing end-of-life issues,” said Chief Nursing Officer Diane Lovallo. “In what can be a stressful and emotional phase of life - a phase we will all eventually face - the support and assistance of such a team of professionals proves to be invaluable.”
Any hospitalized patient with an advanced life-threatening or life-limiting illness, or group of illnesses such as cancer, heart failure, HIV, emphysema or dementia, is eligible for palliative care, when referred by his/her physician.
The service also provides help and support to families, friends and caregivers by helping them express their feelings and concerns; allowing them to ask questions and take part in the decision-making process, and informing them of the full spectrum of available resources for home care.
The Palliative Care Service also educates families about the health-related problems they may face in the future and helps coordinate services.
